Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Casein Review

If whey is the essential protein you need in your diet, then casein definitely completes the duo.

Gold Standard 100% Casein makes up the Optimum Nutrition protein team with the gold standard whey. It completes the package for what you’ll need in terms of protein in your diet.

The question is, however, is it the ‘gold standard’?

Taste and Texture

Firstly, Optimum Nutrition has once again prevailed with their products with the delivery of their casein, it’s soft, smooth and has a real thin texture meaning rarely, if ever, will you be left with bits of protein powder at the bottom of your shaker.

Effectiveness and goals aside, the casein definitely tastes better than whey!

Our favourite is obviously the chocolate!

Effectiveness

As expected from the high standards they’ve set, Optimum Nutrition has once again surpassed many with this casein.

Each scoop of Anti-Catabolic Micellar Casein contains 24g and nearly 5g of BCAA’s and 5g of Glutamine and Glutamic Acid

It’s a really slow digesting protein which is ideal to take just before bed and, let’s not forget to mention, you’re getting an extra 24g of protein with a shake.

Ease of Use

Whether you blend with water, milk or stick in a smoothie, you’re certainly not going to make a mess or struggle with the blending of this product.

The tip is always to add the water before you add the protein – making the blend even easier.

The product is very fine which, subject to opinion, can make blending far from a chore.

Price

Optimum Nutrition has never been the cheapest products on the market, the casein retails for around £48.00 for 1.8kg which is available to buy on Amazon here.

That said, if you only had to stock up on essentials for the month, casein should be on your list.

Despite first observations on price, you do get a whopping 55 servings in a 4lb tub – in the grand scheme of things, the price is pretty fair when you take all that into consideration.

Overall Thoughts

There’s clearly not as many casein products on the market as there is whey, that said, Optimum prevail once again and easily dominate the market on this product. If it’s affordable to you, stock up on Casein, the results and goals certainly won’t let you down!
